our charming home is a 5 minute walk to All Saints' or Shenanigans.
THE HOUSE
Built in the late 1800s as a schoolhouse and added onto over the years, our home is comfortable and cozy, roughly 1700 sq. ft. with large common spaces and small bedrooms and bathrooms. This is not a typical rental house. It is our home, which we rent for University weekends and affiliated events.
No Parties or gatherings over 12 people.

This cute, eclectic Arts and Crafts Bungalow located on Sewanee's main street just 2 blocks from All Saints Chapel is available for rent during Family Weekend, Homecoming, Lessons and Carols, Graduation,
and by special arrangement.

The front porch is a great place for morning coffee and afternoon naps. The morning sun makes it warm and the afternoon shade keeps it cool.

We look out on University Avenue, but our house is set back from the road providing us with privacy.
COMMON SPACES
The common gathering spaces are generous and people feel very comfortable here. It's a cheerful place full of local art and inspiration from our travels. We love sharing our home knowing how excited visitors are to be in Sewanee!
LIVING ROOM
The spacious living room has three sets of French doors leading to the front porch and filling the room with natural light. There is a gas fireplace with a thermostat control and an HDTV with Roku.

KITCHEN
The kitchen has a wall of windows and French doors opening onto the screened porch. There is a large center peninsula with counter chairs as well as a comfy sofa and coffee table.

It's a funky kitchen, but it has everything you need: fridge, range, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, toaster oven, mixer, blender...
DINING ROOM
The dining room is in the center of the house and seats 8.
GUEST ROOMS
Two indoor bedrooms each have an attached bathroom with shower. Please note there is no bathtub. The master bedroom has a new king size bed. The guest bedroom is caboose-like, with the built in queen size bed taking up all of one side.
MASTER BEDROOM
The new king size Sleep Number type mattress has controls to adjust firmness independently on each side of the bed. Mattress warmer, down comforter, and high thread count sheets ensure a great night's sleep.

OUTDOOR LIVING
Our love of nature is reflected in our outdoor spaces. We use the screened in porch as a master bedroom 3/4s of the year and look forward to summers in the outdoor shower.
The extensive perennial gardens provide a habitat for butterflies, bees, birds, bunnies, and an abundance of other small animals.

SLEEPING PORCH
People love the new king size bed with mattress warmer and down comforter. Fresh air and sounds of nature make for a delightful sleeping experience.

The large screened porch off the kitchen serves many purposes - office, yoga, dining, sleeping, visiting...

We keep several fancy backyard chickens as pets. They live happily in a little yellow house on the side of the gardenÂ
and will not bother you.

Our back yard overflows with a riot of color many months of the year. When my children were young, they thought fairies lived here!
PERENNIAL FLOWER BEDS
I've been gardening in this yard for about 25 years. It's a constant evolution that leans towards cultivated wildness, creating a habitat for a healthy variety of animals.

HOSTS
The daughter of math professor Laurence Alvarez and artist & Lemon Fair founder Gay Alvarez, Katherine grew up in Sewanee. As an adult she ran Stirling's Coffee House for nearly 20 years before taking over The Lemon Fair until it's sale in 2021. Katherine rented out her house for many years before marrying Paul. Paul spent his youth in Pittsburgh, PA and much of his adult life in Burlington, VT, where he often rented his house on Lake Champlain. 10 years ago he married Katherine and moved into her house. Together they continue to work on their property and are happy to once again open their home to Sewanee visitors.

If reservation is cancelled, deposit will be returned - minus $100 - if property is able to be rented to another party.

Please treat our home as you would your own. Damages and losses are the responsibility of the renter - including remote controls.

This is our home, where we live, full of our stuff. There are locked rooms and closets. We clear space for you to hang clothes and clear out most of the fridge. You are welcome to use basics like salt & pepper and condiments.
